The Dakota
Project type
Working Anthology of Short Horror Stories
Date
2025
The Dakota is a collection of short stories that follow the events that take place at The Dakota apartment building in New York. This work could be considered a horror with historical context, though most of the narrative will be fictional. Written in a third-person perspective, The Dakota is descriptive and detailed in framing the setting, introducing new characters, and foreshadowing the events soon to take place. The anthology itself starts at the building’s origin in the 1880s, focusing on the demonic entity attached to the land and the sinister influence it has on humanity. Each story will take place roughly within fifty years of one another, starting in the 1880s until the final entry acts as a glimpse into the near future in the 2030s. The Dakota apartment building already has historical significance in that it was the location of John Lennon’s murder, so this anthology plays off the tragedy that took place and expands upon it. These stories aim to make the reader ask him or herself: Is any event truly a random occurrence, or do higher powers control our fates?
